Earlier this week, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport was named one of the best Airports in North America for the third consecutive year in the Airports Council International's (ACI) 2017 Airport Service Quality Awards. Billy Bishop Airport tied for second place for Best Airport in North America (over 2 million passengers per year).

The 2017 ACI Awards are based on the passenger-driven results of ACI's Airport Service Quality Survey, which saw more than 600,000 in-depth passenger surveys conducted at more than 300 airports across 85 countries worldwide. The survey methodology is predicated on at least 1,200 surveys being conducted at each airport by ACI over the course of a year. The survey gathers information relating to passenger satisfaction across a number of key performance indicators for airport service including airport access, check-in, security screening, courtesy of staff and comfort of waiting areas. Billy Bishop Airport participated in the Airport Service Quality Survey – considered to be the world's benchmark measure of airport excellence – for the first time in 2015 when it received a third place ranking as one of the top North American airports.

Updated requirements begin today for Delta passengers wanting to fly with animals

Delta's updated policy for those travelling with service and support animals begins today. The new requirements support Delta's top priority of ensuring safety for its customers, employees and trained service and support animals, while supporting the rights of customers with legitimate needs, such as disabled veterans, to travel with trained animals.
The policy change follows an 84 percent increase in reported incidents involving service and support animals since 2016, including urination/defecation, biting and even a widely reported attack by a 70-pound dog. Delta carries approximately 700 service or support animals daily — nearly 250,000 annually. Putting this into perspective, Delta carries more than 180 million passengers annually. Customers have attempted to fly with comfort turkeys, gliding possums, snakes, spiders and more. Ignoring the true intent of existing rules governing the transport of service and support animals can be a disservice to customers who have real and documented needs.

Ryanair to drop almost all routes from Glasgow and more strikes loom

The low-fare high fee airline Ryanair has confirmed it will almost completely cease operations from Glasgow Airport. The airline which also operates out of Edinburgh, Prestwick and Aberdeen will cut the number of routes out of Glasgow from 23 to just three which will force more than 300 people to lose their jobs.

Chief commercial officer David O'Brien blamed the change on the cost of air passenger duty and said Glasgow "simply could not bear the burden". He also said it had to do with Brexit.

Glasgow Airport said it was "bitterly disappointed" by Ryanair's decision and the spokesperson said there was "no doubt" that the failure to replace air passenger duty (APD) with a cheaper air departure tax (ADT) in Scotland was behind the move. "We are bitterly disappointed at this decision by Ryanair which is not only damaging for Glasgow and wider Scottish connectivity, it will impact approximately 100 jobs locally." the spokesperson said, adding, "This is a result of the airline's review of its single aircraft bases. However, we have been left in no doubt it is also a consequence of the Scottish government's inability to introduce its proposed 50% cut in air departure tax.

"Despite clear and repeated warnings from both airports and airlines about the potential impact of this policy not being implemented, we are now faced with a stark scenario that includes the loss of 20 services and a significant number of jobs."
