Titan Airways launches third Airbus A321neoLR

Titan Airways takes delivery of third Airbus A321neoLR

The latest addition to the Titan Airways fleet, an Airbus A321neoLR, registered G-POWT, arrived at the airline's London Stansted base on Wednesday 16th November, all set for entry into revenue service in either an all-economy 220-seat configuration or an all-business 80 seat configuration.

Alastair Willson, CEO of Titan Airways said: "We are delighted to be expanding our A321LR fleet as we continue our investment in latest technology aircraft. The A321LR is the ideal replacement for our Boeing 757’s which will leave the fleet over the next 6 months. The A321LR’s provide additional range and reduce carbon emissions by around 30% compared to the B757. Passengers will benefit from in-flight connectivity and on-demand entertainment via the Wi-Fi, in a quieter cabin.

G-POWT is the third A321neoLR to enter the Titan fleet in two years, following the introduction of G-XATW and G-GBNI in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

This newest passenger aircraft is available with immediate effect for ACMI airline and full charter flight operations.

The addition of a third A321neoLR and disposal of the Boeing 757 is part of the carrier's move to an all-Airbus fleet, scheduled for completion by the end of 2023. This strategy has also seen the replacement of the old Boeing 737 classic freighters the company used to operate, with the latest generation Airbus A321 freighters.

Titan Airways lends support to young Ukrainian cancer patients

The airline recently supported teams at the Department of Health and Social Care and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to safely transport 21 Ukrainian children requiring cancer treatment to the UK. The flight from Rzeszow, Poland to Birmingham took place earlier this year. The children will now receive the treatment and care they need from NHS England

Titan’s small part was to donate the  Airbus A321 to carry the children, family members and the incredible accompanying NHS team, who, working with our crew, ensured the passengers could travel safely and comfortably. Titan were able to operate the flights free of charge with the support of Birmingham Airport and XLR Executive Jet Centres who also volunteered their services to the UK Government when asked by the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom to support these flights.

A wide-body Airbus A330-200 aircraft in Air Serbia’s fleet, registered as YU-ARC has arrived at the Belgrade Airport.

The new wide-body Airbus A330-200 aircraft in Air Serbia’s fleet, registered as YU-ARC, arrived at the Belgrade Airport. Air Serbia’s second long-haul aircraft bears the image of Mihajlo Pupin (1854-1935), with which the national airline wants to honour the famous scientist of Serbian descent, inventor, professor of physics at Columbia University in New York, one of the founders of NASA and winner of a Pulitzer Prize for an autobiography. After necessary technical and administrative steps, the Airbus A330 with the image of Pupin will start operating long-haul flights.

“Enhancing our fleet is one of the strategically most important goals in our company’s development plan. In order to develop our network further, it is necessary to have an adequate fleet and the necessary capacity. We are eagerly awaiting the moment when our new Airbus A330 will take flight. Having in mind the current needs of our network, it is very important for the new aircraft to start regular flights as soon as possible, and that is why it will be flying with the existing cabin and seat layout. Our plan is for Pupin to get a cabin which will be similar to the one in current A330-200 “Tesla” in terms of quality. This will be done during the regular 12-year aeroplane maintenance at the start of next year. We continue to renew our fleet in order to offer even more network flexibility and comfort for our passengers,” said Jiri Marek, CEO of Air Serbia.

The new Air Serbia aircraft got its unique livery in Marana, Arizona, United States. The painting process, during which 20 different colours and 400 litres of paint were used, took 18 days of constant work in two shifts, with teams of approximately 10 people per shift. The latest addition to the national airline’s fleet will have an 18-seat configuration in business class, and 250 seats in economy class. The plane was manufactured in 2011, it has Rolls-Royce engines, an engine thrust of 71100 N, a wingspan of 60 m, and close to 59m in length. It can fly at a maximum altitude of 41,450 feet. Before arriving at Air Serbia, it was used by South African airline South African Airways (SAA).

Air Serbia is the national airline of the Republic of Serbia, the successor of the first national airline, Aeroput, established in Belgrade in 1927. We have been operating under our present name since October 2013.

Air Serbia operates scheduled, seasonal and charter flights to over 70 destinations in Europe, the Mediterranean, North America, Asia and Africa, in passenger and cargo traffic. In cooperation with our airline partners, we also offer flights to international destinations in Asia, Australia, North America and Africa.

In addition to Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade, which is our base, Air Serbia also flies from Constantine the Great Airport in Niš and from International Airport Morava near Kraljevo.

Architectural design award for Helsinki Airport

The lower ceiling of the expanded Terminal 2 at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is a proud achievement for Finnish wood design and construction and has received the International Award for Wood Architecture 2022. To keep this award-winning design looking its best for many years, both the inside and the outside wooden ceilings are coated in Teknos AQUATOP 2600-90 translucent topcoat in a matt finish.

In describing the winning entrant the award judges praised the design for its ambition and craftsmanship commenting “visually, the ceiling has a unified feel due to the uncompromising finishing and uniform surface treatment” (Wood Award, Puuinfo). They also acknowledged the calming effect of wood and its use as a building material in the hectic environment of an airport.

A challenging construction in wood

Manufactured by Raision Puusepät Oy, a total of 7700 m² of wood was used in the roof of the departure hall, the outside box and around the skylight of the terminal. The wavy shape of the roof is made of thousands of curved wooden elements and was one of the most challenging assignments for Raisio Puusepi.

Neste delivers more than 500,000 gallons of sustainable aviation fuel to Los Angeles International Airport

Neste has delivered over 500,000 gallons (1,500 metric tons) of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in cooperation with LAXFUEL
This first large-volume delivery of SAF to LAX enables commercial airlines flying from the airport to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from air travel
Using Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80%* over the fuel's life cycle compared to using fossil jet fuel

Neste delivered over 500,000 gallons (1,500 metric tonnes) of Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This SAF delivery was made possible by a close cooperation with LAXFUEL, the consortium of the airlines operating at LAX providing the jet fuel supply infrastructure for the planes at the airport. It is the first time SAF is delivered into LAXFUEL's supply infrastructure using barges for transport.

The fuel delivery significantly increases the availability and accessibility of sustainable aviation fuel at one of the busiest international airports and aviation hubs in the US, offering airlines and passengers a solution to travel more sustainably with reduced greenhouse gas emissions from air travel.

Sustainable aviation fuel has been widely acknowledged as a key element in helping to achieve aviation's emissions reduction goals globally. One of the challenges facing the aviation industry is making SAF available in large enough volumes. Smaller deliveries of SAF have been used for flights out of LAX in the past, but those have been in smaller and infrequent quantities brought in by trucks. This partnership marks the first time that SAF is being delivered as a ready made fuel blend into the existing fueling infrastructure in large volumes at LAX.

Eurowings doubles services at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER)

Eurowings is significantly expanding its presence at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER)   Photo Gunter Wicker/Airport Berlin

Eurowings is significantly expanding its presence at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) and extending its range of attractive direct destinations. With the start of the summer flight schedule from the end of March 2023, travellers will be able to choose from almost 30 destinations with Eurowings from the capital's airport – twice as many as before.

The new destinations that have already been determined include Malaga, Alicante, Antalya, Larnaca and Rhodes. Further destinations from Berlin residents' favourite vacation spots are currently being planned. In addition to the expansion towards the outh, Eurowings is strengthening its services to Northern Europe in particular: The Lufthansa subsidiary will connect the German capital with Copenhagen, Gothenburg and Helsinki from March 2023. As part of this growth, Eurowings is increasing its base in the capital and will have six aircraft stationed at BER in the future. A fourth aircraft is already reinforcing Eurowings' growth path at the capital's airport in the current 2022/23 winter flight schedule.

With this significant expansion of its program, the Lufthansa Group airline is also responding to the withdrawal of international competitors, who have pulled out of the German market in the wake of the pandemic. Months ago, Eurowings had already emphasized the importance of the capital, announcing its intention to strengthen its position in Berlin.

“Others are pulling back, we are building up,” Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof said at a joint press briefing with BER Airport. “Berlin is and remains an absolute tourist magnet and one of the most exciting metropolises in Europe, both culturally and historically. So it's only logical for us as a German airline to expand our presence and bring more Eurowings to the capital.”

Aletta von Massenbach, Chairwoman of the Management Board at BER: “The doubling of the aircraft fleet and connections at the capital's airport by Eurowings is a strong signal. Globally, the capital region is one of the most popular travel destinations and attracts people from all over the world. Berlin and Brandenburg as an economic region are experiencing dynamic development and offer airlines the best conditions for consistent growth. The expansion of Eurowings' services at BER further strengthens the partnership and enhances the connectivity of the airport location. We thank Eurowings and the Lufthansa Group for expanding their commitment and for their confidence in BER and the capital region.” As Germany's largest vacation airline with more than 4,000 employees, Eurowings has the most popular vacation destinations in Mallorca, the Canary Islands, Greece, Croatia and Egypt in its program.
