Taylor on Strings: A free open-air classical concert on 13 August

City String Ensemble to play over a dozen innovative interpretations of famous Taylor Swift songs

Just days before Taylor Swift returns to Wembley Stadium for her August concert dates, Wembley Park presents an enchanting open-air concert featuring some of her most famous songs.

Taking place at The Sound Shell in Wembley Park’s Samovar Space from 6.30pm on Tuesday 13th August, the dynamic string quartet, City String Ensemble, will deliver their innovative interpretations of more than a dozen Taylor Swift hits at the one-off ‘Taylor on Strings’ event.

Wembley Park – Northwest London’s renowned entertainment district – has already hosted hundreds of thousands of Swifties for the superstar’s June concerts at Wembley Stadium. Now, fans will be treated to an exquisite evening of original performances of her songs. Tickets are free but must be booked online in advance as spaces are limited.

“We are excited to bring our unique interpretations of Taylor Swift's music to life at Wembley Park,” comments Sophie Poteratchi, Founder and Violinist of City String Ensemble. “This concert offers an opportunity for Swifties to experience Taylor’s music in a more intimate setting - with our signature style of bringing each song to life with string instruments.”

London-based City String Ensemble began as a quartet but has grown into a dynamic string orchestra. The classically trained musicians are renowned for their innovative interpretations of contemporary and classical music. Formed at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the group released its debut EP, ‘Twenty Twenty,’ in 2020, followed by further releases in 2021 and 2022. Live performances span genres including modern pop, anime soundtracks and classical favourites.

The enchanting interpretations delivered by City String Ensemble at ‘Taylor on Strings’ will include Love Story, Fortnight, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, Anti-Hero, Shake It Off, Cruel Summer and many other famous Swift songs.

The intimate open-air setting for the event, framed by the iconic Wembley Stadium arch in the background, has welcomed musicians from across the globe since The Sound Shell stage was added to Olympic Way in 2022. Performances have encompassed everything from Pride celebrations and gospel Christmas choirs to the recent ‘Sounds of the World’ celebration of global rhythm.

“The Sound Shell has provided a stunning venue for a wide range of incredible performances in recent years,” comments Claudio Giambrone, Event Curator at Wembley Park. “We are delighted now to be presenting ‘Taylor on Strings’ from the outstanding City String Ensemble. It’s the perfect addition to the atmosphere of excitement that has blanketed Wembley Park as Taylor Swift prepares to return here for five further concerts this month.”

Wembley Park has already revealed a range of new cultural attractions in honour of Taylor Swift’s eight concerts at Wembley Stadium. Fans have delighted in taking selfies in front of the ‘Swiftie Steps’ with their large-scale, multi-dimensional artwork by Frank Styles, and by the stunning MurWalls X Humor mural that adorns the steps’ side. The latter has become a permanent part of Wembley Park’s free public art trail, which delivers a journey through creative expression, with more than 20 outdoor artworks to explore. There is also a free outdoor photo exhibition, ‘Taylor on Tour’, in Wembley Park’s Arena Square, showing a selection of outstanding images from Getty photographers celebrating Taylor Swift’s live performances during her Eras Tour.

Swifties keen to enjoy an evening of their icon’s most famous songs reimagined by City String Ensemble can visit wembleypark.com/taylor-on-strings for more information and to obtain their tickets to the 'Taylor on Strings' performance. Tickets are free but limited due to high demand; 30 will be released at 10am each day before the concert.
