American Airlines mishandled over 300,000 items of luggage between January and June this year

One of the largest airlines in the U.S. - American mishandled over 300,000 items of baggage in the first six months of this year, according to the latest figures collated by The Office of Aviation Consumer Protection.

In the latest Air Travel Consumer Report, it shows that American Airlines mishandled some 300,590 bags during the period as opposed to 177,248 bags in 2021. The airline with the fewest bags mishandled this year up to June was Allegiant with 5,466 bags, whilst in second place was Hawaiian Airlines. The table below taken from the report shows the ranking of those airlines that report their figures.

American Airlines also topped the tables of airlines with the longest tarmac delays in June, for example, the longest domestic tarmac delay was on 27 June, between RDU and AUS, operated by American Airlines partner Envoy which was delayed on the ground by some 4 hours 47 minutes.  the next longest delay 4 hours 39 minutes,  another Envoy flight for American on the same day and also at Austin.
