The Spanish airline Volotea is opening a number of new routes in recent weeks as travel demand across Europe increases exponentially. One of the latest new services to take to the air is a weekly operation between the German city of Hannover and Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia.

The service is operating every Saturday with an Airbus A320 aircraft seating 180 passengers.  The first aircraft was welcomed last weekend evening with a traditional christening from the airport fire brigade.

Sardinia convinces as a holiday paradise with its natural landscapes and miles of white sandy beaches. Cagliari, the capital of the island, is eclectic and lively and has a lot of Italian charm to offer.

Volotea is a Spanish low-cost airline founded in 2011. The airline plans to expand its flight program from Hanover even further in the course of the year. From 11 November, it will serve the Hanover – Venice route on Mondays and Fridays.

Data from IBA, the leading provider of market intelligence and consultancy services for the aviation industry, has revealed that Volotea has achieved the largest reduction in unit CO2 emissions amongst European short-haul airlines since 2019. The Airline has reduced its CO2 emissions by 14.2% per available seat kilometre between 2019 and 2022 (end of May), which is the largest reduction in Europe on short-haul routes and the second highest in the world for major carriers.
