PostNord is expanding operations at Jönköping Airport.

On May 2, PostNord will start flying mail from Jönköping to Stockholm-Arlanda. The aircraft will take off four evenings a week, Monday to Thursday and it is the Swiss airline Zimex Aviation that has the confidence to transport mail in Sweden for PostNord.

It was on January 31 that PostNord again started operating Jönköping by mail flight, when it started up with flights from Stockholm-Arlanda to Jönköping. This is after a nearly three-year hiatus. Goods will now be flown in both directions.

"Sweden is a country with long distances, and in order to live up to the requirement that letters arrive within two days, we need to get help from aviation. Jönköping is right for shipments to and from the mail terminal in Nässjö," says Tomas Granmar, Head of Flights and Trains at PostNord Sweden.

The total freight volume handled at the airport had an increase of 61 tonnes (+9%) in the first three months of the year, compared to the corresponding period last year. Jönköping Airport welcomes PostNord's investment and at the same time continues its work to develop the airport's freight operations.

"Of course, this is positive news for us that is completely in line with our goal to develop on the freight side. In addition to PostNord, we have seen a marked increase in ad hoc flights since the beginning of the year, not least from England. Something that has come about thanks to the fact that we now have approval by The Swedish Customs for Temporary Customs Warehouse, which enables the reception of goods from third countries, says Henrik Älverdal, Commercial Manager at Jönköping Airport.

Today, FedEx, Time:Matters and DANX fly goods at Jönköping Airport, where they jointly link Brussels, Karlsruhe, Oslo, Billund and Helsinki with the Swedish market. The freight operations are operated by the airport in-house and Jönköping Airport Cargo is one of the Swedish Transport Agency's security-approved air freight terminals, as well as one of two terminals in Sweden that are neutral independent of freight forwarders.
