Whether it be the food, the view, or the proud and friendly folks you'll meet along the way - we promise you'll get both what you're looking for, and more often than not, a moment of surprise brought to you by Manitoba and this winter is no exception, there are so many exciting things to do and here are just 10!
1. Skate the day away
There’s no doubt that the River Trail is the go-to choice for savvy Winnipeg skaters (it’s also the Guinness World Record-holding longest naturally frozen skating trail) - but there are plenty of other
skating rinks and trails to tick off your list this winter!
2. Study the winter sky
Beyond the science of migration and wildlife, Oak Hammock Marsh is an excellent spot for examining the night sky. There are monthly astronomy nights throughout the winter that take participants to the outdoor observation deck to study astrophotography, winter constellations and northern lights.
3. Marvel at the beauty of Pisew Falls
Located 50 minutes south of Thompson, Pisew Falls is an absolute gem in Manitoba's waterfall repertoire that becomes even more stunning in the wintertime. Take in the view from the vantage point of two boardwalks that overlook the falls - no hiking required.
4. Have wacky winter fun at the Snowdance Festival
The Snowdance Festival in Falcon Lake (January 18, 19, & 20th, 2019) combines everything fun about the season with an amazing array of concerts and one-of-a-kind activities like the turkey shoot and skijoring. Tickets sell out fast, so don’t wait to nab yours.
5. Pick out a tree from the farm
Is there anything more festive than picking out the perfect tree with your family? While you’re out finding THE tree, make sure to snap some photos – few things are more photogenic than tree farms under freshly fallen snow.
6. Witness the Northern lights in Churchill
Did you know that Churchill is one of the best places in the world to view the northern lights? There are a number of packages to choose from when planning your trip north, including the option to experience a gourmet dinner beneath the lights!
7. Fly down a tobogganing hill
Make a winter tradition with your kids and visit one (or more) of Winnipeg’s tobogganing hills - including St. Vital Park’s award-winning slide! Outside of Winnipeg, take your sled to the
Neepawa-Langford Winter Park, L.A. Barkman Kinsmen Park in Steinbach or to Morden Park.
8. Skate the lake in Minnedosa
Register your team for Minnedosa's annual Skate the Lake hockey tournament, featuring 8+ groomed outdoor rinks. This year’s dates are February 15 to 16, 2020.
9. Rip through the snow
Get out and find groomed trails in every region of the province. Visit SnoMan to find out about conditions on the more than 12,000 kilometres of designated trails. If you’re particularly
adventurous, head north and take the 144-km trail from Flin Flon to The Pas.
10. Go snow tubing
If you typically spend your summers tubing at the lake, you’ll love the snow tubing experience, too. There are a number of places to snow tube in Manitoba, including Falcon Ridge Ski Slopes, Valley
View Tubing Hill in MacGregor and Asessippi Ski Resort.
