easyJet, one of Europe’s leading airlines, has announced it will start a new route between Edinburgh and Birmingham from 29th March 2020. The domestic city connection will operate 13 times a week throughout the year.
Over 180,000 passengers are expected to use the new service during the first 12 months of operation on the airline’s A320 family aircraft, eight of which it currently bases at Edinburgh. Seats are due to go on sale in the coming weeks.
This is the second new Edinburgh route easyJet has announced in as many weeks, following the news that the airline will operate a twice-weekly winter route to Verona in Italy, with the inaugural flight due to take off in December.
The addition of the service to Birmingham doubles the connections that easyJet will now offer between Scotland and the Midlands, following the announcement last month that the airline will operate a new service between Glasgow and Birmingham, which also launches on the 29th March operating 13 times a week.
Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be announcing yet another new route from Edinburgh today, to Birmingham.
“We remain committed to expanding our network from Scotland and this is a particularly exciting addition to our base at Edinburgh. We are confident the new service to Birmingham will provide a popular addition to easyJet’s network.
“In total easyJet now serves 41 destinations from Edinburgh spanning the UK and Europe and this new route will complement our existing network of leisure and business flights.”
Edinburgh Airport Chief Executive Gordon Dewar said: “We’re delighted to be part of easyJet’s continued growth in Scotland. We share the same goal – to ensure passengers have choice whether traveling internationally or domestically. This new Birmingham service is a key part of that and we’re sure will be a great success.”
easyJet is the largest airline in Edinburgh and with the addition of the new Birmingham route will operate up to 582 flights a week across 41 routes.
