Bologna, Bordeaux and Porto are the latest new destinations named by Finnair as the Nordic carrier expands its global reach.
Finnair will open these three new routes in time for the peak summer season in 2019. In addition, the carrier has also confirmed it will increase capacity to other popular summer destinations in its route network.
Bologna, Italy, will be served up to three times a week between 10th April and 18th October, utilising Airbus A319 aircraft. Bologna is a popular and well known top destination for gastronomy, fine wine and rich in history and culture. It is also a city that is less crowded than Rome and Florence and yet offers so much for the happy holiday visitor. Bologna is also an ideal gateway to several other popular Italian cities and regions that are perfect for exploring during the summer months and some of the most picturesque in all of Italy.
Bordeaux in France will enjoy a service between 11th May and 14th September 14, up to twice a week on an A319 jet. There is no doubt that Bordeaux is well known around the world for its wine, less well known is perhaps that the historic centre is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Porto, Portugal, will benefit from a twice-weekly A319 service between 21st June and 12th August, offering the Finnish people the opportunity to explore a fantastic region that is often overlooked by vacationers. Located on the coast of Northern Portugal, Porto is Portugal’s second largest city, its home of the famous Port wine. The city has also been recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for its historic centre, that is a pure delight to explore. Porto is also a great gateway city to an expansive and beautiful area, as well as a starting point for numbers river cruisers going up the Douro. Also interesting to note is that Porto is actually twinned with Bordeaux with deep cultural and economic links between the two cities.
“We are very pleased to be able to offer these three new routes for leisure travellers next summer,” says Juha Järvinen, Chief Commercial Officer at Finnair. “The three cities and surrounding areas have plenty to offer our customers and we fully expect the routes to be popular with food enthusiasts as all three regions are superb culinary and wine regions.”
Finnair will also add capacity to some of its popular leisure destinations. During the peak summer season, an additional weekly frequency will be added to Alanya-Gazipasa, Palma de Mallorca, Split and Tel Aviv. In addition, Finnair will also fly an additional triangle flight on Wednesdays between Helsinki, Ivalo and Kittilä from 24th April to 23rd October.
