In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, American Airlines and its team members and customers are “going pink” throughout October to raise awareness and critical funds for long-time partner Susan G. Komen.
First Officer Julie Daudelin didn’t have a family history of breast cancer, but the Chicago-based pilot proactively did regular self-examinations of her breasts as part of her regular health care. During one of her routine exams seven years ago, she found a lump. Julie went to see her physician and was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. In the weeks and months that followed, Julie underwent a bilateral mastectomy followed by five months of chemotherapy. Today, she is cancer-free. Learn more about Julie’s career path, diagnosis and advice for those currently fighting in the video below.
