Russian airline Aeroflot started a daily service from its Moscow hub to the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, this week as part of its new winter timetable.
The service is operated by a new Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft on a daily basis until 30th March 2019, the outbound flight departs at 0905 from Sheremetyevo to arrive Ljubljana at 1020. The return flight leaves Ljubljana at 1130 to arrive back in Moscow at 1640.
Marking the launch of the new service on Sunday 28th October, Vitaly Saveliev, CEO of Aeroflot, said: “Today Aeroflot ranks as a leading global carrier and we continue to expand our international route network. This winter we will open new routes as well as increasing flight frequencies to popular destinations. We are pleased to offer travellers new international destinations as well as additional flights to popular tourist destinations, thus expanding travel options with Aeroflot for both business and leisure travellers.”
Zmago Skobir, managing director of Fraport Slovenija, operator of Ljubljana Airport, welcomed the new service, "We are happy to greet Aeroflot at Ljubljana Airport. Daily flights should generate up to 50,000 additional airport passengers per year. Aeroflot is a trusted air carrier with a modern fleet that will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the visibility of Slovenia in Russia and on the inflow of Russian tourists to Slovenia. Russian travellers are traditionally good consumers, so they are expected to substantially contribute to the tourist income of Slovenia. For Slovenian travellers, Aeroflot's connection to Moscow is an excellent starting point for further travels over Russia, to former Soviet countries and to Asia as well.”
Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and is the country's main political, financial and cultural centre that is also popular with the international tourist. Ljubljana is a picturesque city, it has fine architecture, numerous green spaces and a medieval castle that stands proudly atop a hill above the downtown area. There are a wealth of attractions in the city that offer so much, yet is perhaps one of the best undiscovered gems of Europe.
