With one engine not functioning correctly the 224 passengers of Malaysian Airlines flight MH122 had a worrying few moments diverted to make an emergency landing at Alice Springs.
Flight MH122 was flying from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur, today 18th January when loud noises were heard in the cabin by passengers and crew. The aircraft had departed from Sunday at 1306, with a scheduled arrival time of 1830 and was over Broome at the time the disturbing and unusual sounds started occurring.
Passengers have told local media or the worrying time they had as the aircraft diverted off its usual flight plan to head to Alice Springs. Sanjeev Pandey, a passenger from Sydney, travelling with two friends heading onward to Mumbai to take part in a marathon said, "There was a loud noise, then the plane started to shake a bit - The loud noise didn't stop for several minutes. It got louder and everyone was scared. All the flight attendants seemed nervous."
According to Mr Pandey, it was then that the pilot used to the public address system to advise there was a technical issue and the plane was turning around and passengers were shown how to "brace for impact".
"He said, 'We are planning to return for assistance', then they had an emergency landing demonstration," continued Mr Pandey "They said there might be a crash landing. That made it even more scary, the flight attendants came to us and said, 'This should be the position of your head, lean forward'."
The aircraft, an Airbus A330-300 landed safely on one engine to Alice Springs where it was met by the emergency services. Hotel accommodation has been arranged for the passengers in Alice Springs while alternative travel arrangments were made.

Malaysia Airlines' flight MH122/ 18 January 2018 from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur has been diverted to Alice Springs due to technical reasons. The A330-300 aircraft safely landed in Alice Springs Airport at 5.48pm.
MH122 departed Sydney Airport at 1.06pm and was scheduled to arrive Kuala Lumpur at 6.30pm the same day.
